Family Relationship

- Hello Verônica what's up?
V - Nothing special Letícia. What are you doing here?

L- I'm looking for some book with regard to family relationship.
V - Which relationship?
- For instance , How do you say the daughter of my aunt?
- It's cousin.
L- That's interesting. What about her son?
V - You say cousin for both of them.
L- dope! Well , my sister Ariana doesn't have any son . What if she had one...   how should I call him?
- Call him by his name.
L- lol! I don't  know his name ...I mean ...
V - I know what you mean, I was kidding! Your sister's son is your nephew.
L- Nephew. Ok. What if he were a girl?
- If he were a girl he wouldn't be "he" but "she.

L- You are funny my friend! I am annoying you , aren't I?
V -  No way Letícia! It's a pleasure to help you. If your sister had a daughter , she would be your niece.
L- So, it's nephew for boys and niece for girls.
V - That's the ticket!
L -  What?
V - I said that you are right!

Don't take me wrong my friend..but I'm a little concerned about that Relationship homework.
V- Oh , really? What's the matter?
L- May I call my sister's husband by uncle?
VNo, you can't. Your uncle is your mother's or your father's brother. Your sister's husband is your brother-in-law.
 - Really? If I had a brother , would his wife be my sister-in-law?
V - That's the ticket!
L How nice! Let me see if I understood the whole picture. My boyfriend's mother  is my mother-in-law.
V- I'd say that she would be your mother-in-law if you married  him.
- but ... is there any problem if I keep calling  her like that?
- It's up to you. You can call her father like your father-in-law...
L - Oh my gosh! You are opening my mind. Now I can understand many things...my boyfriend's sister's once said that I was her sister- in- law  because I was dating her brother ..now I know she is my sister -in-law too. That's awesome! ...I think they can consider me as their daughter-in-law.
V- You are going to blow the roof of the mother with this homework.
LI will if you keep helping me. May I take advantage of this opportunity ?
VOf course! That's what friends are for!
L- Thanks a lot Ve ! Well, could you please explain me the difference between a step-brother and half-brother? I'm getting bored to death trying to figure it out.
V - half brothers have one biological parent in common, by the other hand , step brother is only related through marriage. like if your dad remarries,( I hope it never happens ) his new wife's kids would be your step brothers and step sisters.
L- Just for you to  know Veronica, my dad loves my mom too much and we will be together for good! I think I understood ...let me see ...If Caroline my youngest sister were just my father's daughter , she would be my half-sister, wouldn't she?
V- That's the ticket!
L- Come to think of it, if my father marries again his new wife's children would be my step-siblings, alright?
V Yeah! but as you told me before , this will never happen...
LI don't wanna get any "step - something" in my life...I'm happy with the family I have...
V- I agree! You have a big and happy family!
